Baby knits - Romper

This years theme has most certainly been baby knits.

I had fun knitting this sweet as anything baby romper for our Friends new baby girl. I think it is ridiculously sweet!

The pattern is called Baby A-Line dress, Bolero & Rompers by OGE Knitwear Designs and can be found here. There is a pattern for a matching dress as well.

The beauty of baby patterns is that they are super fast to knit, this little knit took me just a fortnight, and use very little yarn. I knitted this in Drops Baby merino which i love, and used just one and a quarter balls.

I am always indecisive when it comes to picking patterns. Another couple that were in the running for this little lady are below:

Work in progress

Here's a sneak peek at a project i have in the making. A cinnamon bun from the lovely folk at the  Nordic Coffee Collective and a lovely cup of Earl Grey are proven to boost productivity by 50% round here!

This little project is almost finished so will add some pictures when its done. It is going to be super cute and a tad ridiculous.

Craftaganza - Sharpie cushion

It's been a while since my last post. I have been a busy crafter with a number of gifts on the go which I have to keep secret until I hand them over... ssssssshhhhhh!

A few weeks back me and my top crafting friend Liz spent a solid weekend crafting. And Boy did we craft. We made cushions, tote bags, decorated mugs and plates and even found time to make some homemade bagels, cinnamon buns and banana bread. Not to mention a PB at the Saturday park run.

Here is my first project from that weekend. Who knew sharpies, white fabric and some jolly pom pom trim could make such a sweet cushion. I am really pleased with this one.

Such a simple and rewarding project:

  1. Cut fabric template for your cushion
  2. Sharpie using your own design to your hearts content
  3. Leave to dry out
  4. Heat set using a hot iron
  5. Sew up the cushion
I was worried that the sharpies would bleed and not give a professional finish but they do a really good job.

Busy thinking of my next sharpie project!

Wedding cake

When my sister asked me to make her a wedding cake I was overwhelmed with terror. Though I consider myself a competent baker, three tiers in advance of a wedding party may have proved a little stressful. Luckily she requested a three tiered rice crispy cake which as it turned was very simple to make.

I made this sweet cake topper from some jazzy gold glitter card and some pretty pictures of flowers, pretty huh?!

The bunting and vase of crochet flowers were all crafted by my very clever Mum. Crafting runs in my family!

A card for you

This year one of my new years resolutions was to make my nearest and dearest celebration cards and pop them in the post. Historically remembering birthdays of friends, unless they live nearby, is not one of my strengths so in part this resolution was about being a better friend and sharing some postal excitement. I love getting a homemade card and i particularly love post.

Here is a selection of my favorites so far...

For the love of Socks

Everyone loves a good pair of socks.

The V&A houses a pair of knitted socks dating back to the end of the 19th century. I wonder whats knits of today future generations will preserve.

I started knitting this lovely pair back in February. Being my first pair of fair isle socks I struggled to get them started and had three attempts at getting going as I just couldn't master the tension. Once I got going on the third attempt they came together real fast. There is something about fair isle knitting which means you can't let yourself stop!

The pattern is by Rachel Coopey from her book A Knitted Sock Society

Once I have made a pair of socks I always want to make more so another pair is now on the go. I'll be sure to share some pictures when they are done.

and coming soon....

Paper flower crown

The lovely lady pictured above is getting married in June and off to town we went on Saturday for part one of her hen do. I think she succeeded in being the classiest hen in town.

Taking inspiration from pinterest a friend and I spent an evening fashioning this beautiful paper flower crown. Nothing much beats an evening crafting with a good friend over tea and biscuits.

Lots of fun to make and lots more fun to give!
